Devloper proposes condos near I-695
The developer of Cromwell Fountain condominiums in Glen Burnie has proposed building 140 condominiums on 10.7 acres at the northeast corner of Interstate 695 and Ritchie Highway.
Frank J. Scott Sr., the managing partner for F & S Joint Venture, will take his preliminary plans before the county Department of Planning and Code Enforcement for review on Sept. 2.
Mr. Scott said yesterday that the units will be clustered in groups of 11 in buildings that resemble single-family homes. Ten of the 11 units, which will range in price from $80,000 to $110,000, will have garages.
That marks a change in the design Mr. Scott proposed last year, when F & S Joint Venture had 14 acres rezoned for high-density residential use. The property had been zoned for heavy commercial use since 1985.
Mr. Scott said at that time that he wanted to begin construction on 210 units -- 60 garden-style condominiums and 150 "European flats" similar to town homes by early 1994. Those units were to have ranged in price from $49,900 to $90,000.
Yesterday, Mr. Scott said the project had been scaled back and revised to make it more "economically feasible."
F & S Joint Venture considered developing the property commercially until the completion of Route 10 created a "power retail corridor," drawing businesses away from Ritchie Highway, said Mr. Scott.
Driver accused of drunken driving
A Baltimore man was charged with drunken driving after he allegedly hit a parked car in Brooklyn Park Tuesday night, police said.
According to the police report, the driver of a Chevrolet Chevette hit a car parked in the 4900 block of Brookwood Road at 10:30 p.m. and then drove off.
As the officers were taking information about the accident from witnesses, the car drove by again, police said. The officers yelled to the driver to stop, but he kept going, police said.
One of the officers got in front of the car and pointed his gun at the driver and ordered him to stop, and he then did so, police said.
Police charged Robert Kevin Wellman, 28, of the 4000 block of 8th St., with drunken driving and leaving the scene of an accident.
