Police dog helps in arrest of man charged in theft
A Bowie man was charged with theft after police said they caught him driving a stolen car and stealing fuel from an Annapolis gas station early yesterday.
Police said the driver of a Suzuki utility vehicle refueled at the Chesapeake Exxon station in the first block of Defense Highway at 1:30 a.m. and pulled away without paying.
Annapolis police officers spotted the vehicle on West Street and tried to force the driver to stop. The driver pulled into a parking lot on West Street, jumped out of the car and ran toward Poplar Drive. Police used their dog, Major, to track the man and found him hiding on the roof of a home in the 200 block of Gross St.
Alfred Garfield Holland, 23, of the 17000 block of Queen Anne Bridge Road, was also charged with fleeing and eluding police.
* Annapolis: Stereo equipment, a television and other property were stolen from a home in the 1400 block of Chesapeake Drive in Annapolis between noon and 11:48 p.m. Tuesday. The value of the property was not known.
* Edgewater: A resident of the 1700 block of Elkridge Drive reported to police that someone broke into his home Wednesday about 7:43 p.m. Police do not know exactly what was taken.
