Shower singers, come out in public: Verdi's 'Requiem' needs 0) you
All those who have sung Verdi in the shower will now get their chance to take their acts out into the open. This Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the First English Lutheran Church (Charles Street at 39th Street), the Handel Choir of Baltimore is sponsoring an audience sing-along performance of one of Verdi's greatest works, the masterful "Requiem," which will be conducted by the choir's music director, T. Herbert Dimmock. Admission is $5, and, if you don't own a score, you can rent one for $1. To make matters even more inviting, the church is air-conditioned and refreshments will be served. Well, Liberty Showcase Theatre will bring them back with the 1960 musical, "Bye Bye Birdie," which opens Friday.
A cast of more than 40 adults and children will sing and dance their way through this musical comedy account of the excitement that stirs Sweet Apple, Ohio, when teen heartthrob Conrad Birdie comes to town. Show times are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., with matinees Aug. 1 and 8 at 2 p.m. The show runs through Aug. 14. Liberty Showcase performs in the Randallstown High School Theatre, 4000 Offutt Road, Randallstown. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for children and seniors. Wynn Rousuck Local playwright Matthew Ramsey puts a new twist on the tradition of the fool in literature in his latest comedy, "The Adventures of Old Edgar and Wilcox," which will be produced beginning Friday by the Bowman Ensemble at Child's Memorial on the campus of McDonogh School, 8600 McDonogh Road, Owings Mills.
In this, his third original script to be produced by Bowman, Ramsey focuses on two fools trying to cope with the concept of change. Bradford F. Cover and Shawn Fagen play the title characters under the direction of the playwright. Curtain times are 8 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and again Aug. 4-8 and 11-14. Tickets are $10.
