Ex-Fort Meade worker charged with stealing $15,000 on job
A 32-year-old former employee of the Army Air Force Exchange Service at Fort Meade has been arrested and charged with stealing $15,000 from cash registers over a 10-month period in 1991 and 1992.
Marguerita Hernandez of the 8000 block of Fenwick Court in Laurel was indicted by a federal grand jury Dec. 3, but law enforcement officials said they were unable to locate her until Monday.
She was indicted under an alias of Sandra Margo Robinson, said Special Agent Andrew Manning, spokesman for the FBI office in Baltimore.
He said Ms. Hernandez, a cashier at the base exchange, allegedly stole the money between Nov. 1, 1991, and Sept. 1, 1992.
Agent Manning said Army investigators recorded the theft of money and $400 worth of merchandise on videotape.
Don McClow, a spokesman for Fort Meade, said Ms. Hernandez was hired by the exchange Sept. 21, 1991, and dismissed Aug. 31, 1992.
Ms. Hernandez was taken before a U.S. Magistrate at federal court in Baltimore, where she was released on an unsecured $15,000 bond.
No court date has been set.
