Finksburg man held in assault of state troopers Melee followed response to call CENTRAL -- Uion Mills * Westminster * Sandymount * Finksburg

A 35-year-old Finksburg man was being held in lieu of $10,000 bail at the county jail yesterday, charged with assaulting two Maryland state troopers Friday night.

Ira Richard Beachy Jr., of the first block of East Collins Circle in the Todd Village Trailer Park, was charged with three counts each of assault and battery, one count of resisting arrest, one count of disobeying a police officer and one count of disturbing the peace.

The nine charges are misdemeanors.

Mr. Beachy was placed in the Carroll County Detention Center in lieu of $25,000 bail Friday night. At a hearing yesterday, District Court Judge JoAnn Ellinghaus-Jones reduced the bail to $10,000.

Two state troopers arrived at Mr. Beachy's mobile home at about 8:30 p.m. Friday after someone there called 911 and hung up, according to a report by Tfc. Mark E. Long.

When they arrived, Mr. Beachy was standing on the front porch and told them he did not know why the 911 call was made, the report said. Another man at the trailer, Donald Ellery, gave Tfc. Francisco W. Quisay permission to go inside to see if anyone needed help, the report said.

Mr. Beachy then ran toward Trooper Quisay, cursed at him and shoved him against the trailer door, the report said.

Trooper Long yelled at Mr. Beachy that he was under arrest, and Mr. Beachy shoved Trooper Long, according to the report.

The three men wrestled for about five minutes before Tfc. Keith D. Scheer arrived and helped restrain and handcuff Mr. Beachy, the report said. Mr. Beachy cut Trooper Scheer's hand in the process, the report said.

A crowd formed to watch the melee, Trooper Long wrote in the report.

It was not known who made the 911 call or why.

Mr. Beachy is scheduled to appear in District Court on Sept. 16.
