City man accused of threat with rifle

State police charged a 28-year-old Westminster man with assault with a rifle yesterday.

Police said William C. Milligan of Eckard Road is accused of pointing a rifle and threatening his 28-year-old girlfriend, of the same address, with the weapon at 1:30 a.m. during a quarrel.

A hearing is pending in the case, according to police documents.

School announces fitness award winners

Westminster East Middle School recently announced the 1992-1993 Presidential Academic Fitness Award winners.

* Westminster: Equipment from the Westminster station put out a transformer fire on West Main Street within 40 minutes after being called out at 12:51 p.m. Friday.

* Reese: Units from the Reese station needed only two minutes to investigate a fire alarm on Gore's Mill Road at 11 a.m. Friday.

* Westminster: Trucks from the Westminster and Reese stations responded to a fire alarm on Washington Road at 9:18 a.m. Friday. They were back in service after half an hour.

* Westminster: Equipment from the Westminster station investigated a report on Ridge Road at 11:48 a.m. Thursday. They were out for 15 minutes.
