Charlotte: Club seats sold out

An official representing the Charlotte, N.C., bid to get an NFL expansion team said yesterday that the group has sold out its 8,314 club seats.

Dan Lohwasser of Muhleman Marketing Inc., said Charlotte has met the requirements of the NFL by selling all its club seats and luxury suites (102). Lohwasser also said there has been an order of 41,632 for permanent seat licenses, which fans are required to purchase to buy tickets. Funds from the permanent seat licenses would fund the team's new stadium.

Charlotte is in contention with Baltimore, Jacksonville, Fla., Memphis, Tenn., and St. Louis for the two expansion teams that will be awarded in October.

Herbert J. Belgrad, chairman of the Maryland Stadium Authority, declined to comment yesterday on the number of seats sold in Baltimore.

Last week, he said most of Baltimore's 100 luxury suites were sold, but there were still some of the 7,500 club seats available.

Belgrad said he will make a statement about Baltimore's progress Monday after a report has been filed with the NFL.
