Florida Marlins -- Recalled OF Chuck Carr from a rehabilitation assignment with Rookie League Kissimmee.

Los Angeles Dodgers -- Announced that the contract of manager Tom Lasorda had been extended through the 1994 season.

San Diego Padres -- Promoted P Terry Clark from Single-A Rancho Cucamonga to Double-A Wichita. Reinstated C Sean Mulligan to Rancho Cucamonga's active roster.

San Francisco Giants -- Reinstated 3B Matt Williams from the 15-day DL. Placed 2B Robby Thompson on the 15-day DL with a strained left quadriceps muscle, retroactive to July 5. Placed OF Willie McGee on the 15-day DL with upper back inflammation, retroactive to July 11. Recalled former Orioles OF Luis Mercedes from Triple-A Phoenix.

Texas Rangers -- Signed former Orioles minor-league OF Oddibe McDowell to a contract with Double-A Tulsa. Activated IF Jeff Huson from the 15-day DL. Optioned IF Jon Shave Triple-A Oklahoma City.


Miami Heat -- Signed a five-year agreement with the Sunshine Network for cable television rights to games.

San Antonio Spurs -- Named former G Johnny Moore, the club's career leader in assists, community relations representative.


Rutgers -- Named Tom Abatemarco men's assistant basketball coach.

St. Joseph's -- Named Matt Brady men's assistant basketball coach.

Wisconsin-Green Bay -- Signed Dick Bennett, men's basketball coach, to a contract extension through the 1999-2000 season.


NFL -- Announced the resignation of Art Modell as chairman of the NFL broadcasting committee.

Chicago Bears -- Placed WR Glen Kozlowski on injured reserve and announced he will miss the entire 1993 season with a degeneratively arthritic knee.

Dallas Cowboys -- Announced retirement of OL Alan Veingrad. Signed LB Barry Minter, S Brock Marion, TE Rich Bartlewski and DL Casey Gamble.

Kansas City Chiefs -- Agreed to a one-year contract with WR Fred Jones.

Miami Dolphins -- Signed RB Keith Byars to a two-year contract and CB Ronnie Bradford to a one-year contract.

Minnesota Vikings -- Signed QB Gino Torretta and G Everett Lindsay.

New Orleans Saints -- Announced the resignation of president and GM Jim Finks.

New York Jets -- Agreed to terms with PK-P Craig Hentrich.

Philadelphia Eagles -- Agreed to terms with their third-round draft pick, DB Derrick Frazier, on a two-year contract. Agreed to terms on one-year contracts with DT Michael Carter and G Mike Schad.

San Francisco 49ers -- Agreed to terms with QB Steve Young on a five-year contract worth $26.5 million. Agreed to terms with DL Dana Stubblefield, a first-round pick.

Seattle Seahawks -- Signed G John Hunter and former Maryland QB Stan Gelbaugh.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- Signed WR Lamar Thomas.

Philadelphia Flyers -- Signed D Terry Carkner to a multi-year contract.


ESPN -- Announced that Keith Olbermann and Suzy Kolber will share anchor duties on SportsNight, the flagship sports news program for ESPN2, which will debut Oct. 1. A third anchor will join Olbermann, who is shifting from ESPN to the new network, and Kolber, a weekend sports anchor and weekday feature reporter at WPEC-TV in West Palm Beach, Fla.
