Mansion to star in show about its architect
The Howard County Historical Society will offer a historical lecture and tour of the mansion Temora, in "Bold Towers and Shady Bowers: The Antebellum Italiante Villas of Norris Starkweather," at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. John's Episcopal Church.
Ed Polk Douglas, historical consultant, lecturer and appraiser from Lyons, N.Y., will present a slide-lecture on the 19th century architect Norris Starkweather.
He will present slides of the architect's local works as well as information about the man's life and accomplishments.
Following the lecture will be a tour of Temora, an example of Starkweather's talents, as well as a reception with an opportunity to speak with the lecturer.
Reservations should be made by sending $5 to the Howard County Historical Society, J. Cramm, 3005 Greenway Drive, Ellicott City 21042. No confirmation will be sent. Names will be held at the door. Make check payable to the Howard County Historical Society.
* Elkridge: 5800 block of Rowanberry Drive: A cassette radio was stolen when someone broke a passenger side window of a blue Chevrolet Cavalier between Saturday and Tuesday.
5700 block of Rowanberry Drive: A stereo and speakers were stolen from a gray Jeep Ranger sometime between Sunday and Monday. The stolen property was valued at $400.
