Eastport man is killed on Bowman Court
Annapolis police are searching for the killer of a 30-year-old Eastport man who was found shot on Bowman Court Monday night.
Sylvester R. Green of Eastport Terrace was found lying in the street with a gunshot wound to the head shortly before 11 p.m. He was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he was pronounced dead at 1:10 a.m.
Although hundreds of people were in the area, no one would step forward with information, police said. Mr. Green's brother Reno, a former Annapolis High School basketball star, was shot to death in 1989.
Cylinder turns out to be research device
A suspicious cylinder found floating in the Severn River near Annapolis Sunday turned out to be an oceanographic research device rather than the bomb police feared, officials said yesterday.
Members of the Army's 144th Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit based at Fort Meade determined that the 15-pound device was not a bomb, said Don McClow, a base spokesman.
Officials originally thought the device belonged to the Naval Surface Warfare Center in White Oak. But a spokeswoman there said it did not belong to the facility or its sister center at Carder Rock, located on the banks of the Severn River about one mile from where the device was found off Greenbury Point.
