Baseball's inaugural All-Star Game in 1933 was the first held in any major sport. In 1934, Arch Ward, former sports editor of the Chicago Tribune and the force behind baseball's first All-Star Game, helped kick off the College All-Star game that pitted the top college seniors against the defending National Football League champions. That game was last played in 1976. The NFL's first version of the Pro Bowl was held in 1939. The National Hockey League was next to adopt an all-star event in 1947 and the National Basketball Association held its first one in 1951.
