* A Fourth of July skyrocket started the fire on the shingled roof of the cupola of McDowell Hall in Annapolis. Prompt action by the Waterwitch Hook and Ladder Company and the heroic efforts of its member Charles Tucker prevented a disaster. -- The Sun, July 7, 1893.
* The Annapolis City Council added another member to the police force, making seven. It is claimed that with its growing population, Annapolis should be provided with at least 10 policemen, including a chief and a sergeant. -- The Sun, July 31, 1893.
