Teen accused of sex offenses involving girl, 5 ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY

A teen-ager whose father has been charged with abusing him as a child was charged yesterday with sexually abusing a 5-year-old girl at a Glen Burnie apartment complex.

The 18-year-old, who lives near the child on Woodside Terrace, was charged with second- and third-degree sex offenses, assault and battery.

District Judge Joseph P. Manck ordered the teen held on $175,000 bail yesterday afternoon, but scheduled another bail review for Tuesday.

The suspect, who turned 18 in January, has no prior adult criminal history.

His 40-year-old father faces arraignment July 12 on charges that he sexually abused two of his sons, sodomizing one, in their Glen Burnie apartment and at a home in Gambrills. The alleged abuse began in 1986.

Thursday evening, police said, the teen, who neighbors say has been accompanying children to the apartment complex pool for several weeks, asked the 5-year-old's mother if he could take her daughter there. The mother refused "and asked him why he played with all the young children in the community and not with people his own age," court documents say.

"He replied that he loved kids, but didn't want any of his own," the mother recalled in the court documents.

Police said the teen then left, and the girl went outside to play with her 3-year-old brother. She returned a few minutes later and asked for help putting on her bathing suit.

The mother asked her why, police said, and the girl answered, "Because [the suspect] wants me to," the court documents say. Police said the mother agreed to meet her daughter at the pool, but before she could leave, the girl returned and told her mother that a man started playing and "touching her all over."

The mother called Anne Arundel County police, who said they talked with the girl and arrested the teen-ager shortly after 8 p.m. near the pool.
