Hampstead farmer named to county board

Carroll commissioners have named Hampstead farmer Ed Lippy to replace Westminster farmer Paul Hering on the county's Environmental Affairs Advisory Board.

Mr. Lippy must accept the appointment before it is official. He would serve a four-year term.

Bowersox to win Carroll employee award

The Ombudsmen for Carroll County government and the Board of Commissioners will present Angela Bowersox with the July Employee Appreciation Award at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Room 300-A in the County Office Building.

An administrative assistant with the Department of Human Resources and Personnel Services, Ms. Bowersox has been with the county for 21 years.

She is being recognized for serving county employees by processing tuition reimbursement checks, performing blood pressure readings, conducting CPR and first-aid training, and assisting occupational safety and health initiatives.

Bear Branch Council to meet Wednesday

The Hashawha/Bear Branch Advisory Council will meet at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Bear Branch Nature Center, 300 John Owings Road, Westminster.

In addition to facilities reports, there will be a discussion on the Hashawha trail system and a slide presentation by Bill Barrows.

Permits office to open to public July 10

The Carroll County Permits Office will be open from 7:30 a.m. to noon July 10, for homeowners unable to get to the office during the week.

Those doing home remodeling and needing permits for pools, decks and sheds may obtain permits one Saturday a month.

All payments must be made by check. A processing fee -- minimum $25 -- is charged on all permit applications.

Homeowners should bring three copies of their plot plans showing the location of the proposed projects.

Certain projects will require additional information, so homeowners should call in advance to see what might be needed.
