SHAWN LOVE, 14, son of Patty and Gordon Love, Uniontown Road in Westminster.
School: Graduated yesterday from St. John School in Westminster, and will be a freshman this fall at Prospect Hall High School in Frederick.
Honored for: Being awarded scholarships not just by Prospect Hall, but also by two other Catholic high schools to which he applied: Calvert Hall and Loyola-Blakefield.
Each school offered him scholarships of about $3,500 each. To ** apply, he submitted his test scores and wrote essays about how he could contribute to the school academically and in sports. He plays basketball, tennis and baseball.
Goals: "I hope I'll get a scholarship to Duke University in North Carolina. I want to be a lawyer or a sportscaster," Shawn said.
Comments: He chose Prospect Hall because of its good academic standing, he said.
"I like that it's small, it's Catholic and it's got a good sports program," he said.
While the scholarship will help his parents pay his tuition, it also was rewarding to him.
"I've been working hard and I thought I could have a good chance to get it," he said. "I'm proud because I know that my work paid off."
