Suspect in assault is found hanged in city jail cell

A West Baltimore man arrested for allegedly trying to strangle his girlfriend with a drawstring was found hanging in his cell in the Western District lockup Saturday, where police say he apparently took his own life.

Lateef Walee, 39, of the 1100 block of N. Fulton Ave., had been arrested on a warrant early Friday after his girlfriend, Anngelique Campbell, alleged that he had tried to strangle her a week earlier.

About 1:30 p.m. Saturday, police said, Mr. Walee was found dead in his jail cell hanging from a drawstring tied to the jail bars.
