An aerobics marathon at the Carroll Fitness Center in Finksburg raised about $7,000 for Rainbow of Hope, a support group for AIDS patients and their families.
The donation total could go higher, said Debbie Speed, general manager of the center, which sponsored Wednesday's event.
For "two solid hours," 47 dancers, including five men, exercised to fulfill pledges they had collected for the charity, she said.
"Some newer dancers took short breaks," Ms. Speed said. "The men and most of the women lasted the whole time."
Paulette Fernekees, who helped organize Rainbow of Hope, said the money will help AIDS patients and their families meet basic needs.
"It will make their lives a little easier. . . . They shouldn't have to beg for services," she said.
