2 Bon Secours sisters mark 50 years
Two Baltimore natives, Sister Mary Gemma Neville and Sister Rita Thomas each celebrated 50 years as sisters of Bon Secours last weekend at the order's U.S. provincial headquarters in Marriottsville.
Sister Mary is the director of pastoral care and clinical pastoral education at St. Francis Xavier in Charleston, S.C., where she also serves as a member of the board of directors.
After graduating from the Bon Secours Hospital School of Nursing in Baltimore, Sister Mary served in nursing positions in Darby and Philadelphia, Pa., Methuen, Mass., and Richmond, Va.
She developed clinical pastoral education programs at St. Joseph Hospital in Chicago and St. Francis Xavier.
Sister Rita is the vice president for mission and president of thboard of directors at Maryview Hospital, Portsmouth, Va.
Sister Rita, a graduate of Bon Secours Nursing School, begaher nursing ministry in Darby and later worked in obstetrics and nursing administration in Grosse Pointe, Mich., Methuen and Richmond.
From 1973 to 1979, Sister Rita served the Sisters of Bon Secouras provincial supervisor.
* Marriottsville: Someone stole an $18 blue trash can with wheels between 9 a.m. and 6:45 p.m. Monday from a home in the 2500 block of Marriottsville Road. There are no suspects.
* Gaither: Engines from the Sykesville, Winfield and West Friendship fire companies responded for a call of smoke in a building on Gaither Road at 7:35 a.m. Tuesday. The units were out for 30 minutes.
* Sykesville: Volunteers from the Sykesville fire station investigated a report of a fire alarm in a building on Route 97 at 10:32 p.m. on Tuesday. They were out for 15 minutes.
