C. J. Miller of Hampstead submitted the low base bid of $556,700 yesterday to build Sykesville Park, a 90-acre park with five ball fields, two multipurpose fields and a system of trails.
The county engineer estimated that the basic project would cost $650,000.
Four other companies submitted bids ranging from $596,465 to $1 million for the park, which will be off Raincliffe Road outside town limits.
Work on the park will start as soon as possible, said Richard J. Soisson, acting director of the county Recreation and Parks Department.
The park is being built primarily to provide a place for Sykesville Little League games, officials have said.
County buyer Richard Shelton opened the bids at the County Office Building yesterday.
