The Howard County Youth Council of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People will honor three civil rights activists at 3 p.m. June 6 at the First Baptist Church of Guilford at 7504 Oakland Mills Road in Columbia.
Dr. Silas E. Craft, Elhart E. Flurry and Dr. Morris L. Woodson are three pioneers who struggled in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s to shape the educational system for African-Americans in Howard County.
Mr. Flurry served as principal of the Harriet Tubman Junior/Senior High School, vice principal of Mount Hebron Junior/Senior High School and principal of Clarksville Middle
Dr. Woodson served as principal of the Guilford Elementary School and director of Howard County elementary schools.
Dr. Silas was principal of Kensington Junior High School.
