State trooper injured in alcohol-related crash

SALISBURY -- A Maryland State trooper was slightly injured late Saturday in an alcohol-related accident when his unmarked cruiser was struck by a car traveling on the wrong side of U.S. 13 in front of the police barracks, authorities said.

Trooper Edward A. Plank, 25, was treated for minor injuries after the 11:15 p.m. head-on collision between his Chevrolet Caprice and a Chevy Geo driven by Laura Jane Kennedy, 35, of Salisbury.

Ms. Kennedy, who refused medical treatment, was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving on a suspended license, negligent driving and failure to wear a seat belt.

Police said she also was charged with assaulting a trooper who investigated the accident.
