Wright's Hatton, Updegrove place 4th in District V tennis


C. Milton Wright's Katie Hatton and Erin Updegrove turned in Harford County's best performance in yesterday's District V tennis tournament at Howard High School.

The girls doubles duo placed fourth in the two-day event, losing in the third-place match to Severna Park's Sarah Keller and Jenny Weitz, 6-2, 6-1.

Hatton and Updegrove were sent to the consolation brackets by losing to eventual champions Amber Clutter and Nikki Robitaille (South Carroll) in straight sets.

Saul Passell and Kristie Johnson, also of C. Milton Wright, advanced to the mixed doubles quarterfinals before losing to the first-place duo of Stephanie Krouse and Brian Ruppert of Centennial, 6-0, 6-2.

In boys singles, Bel Air's second-seed Jeff Roux fell to districrunner-up Ben Rawitt of Severna Park, 6-2, 6-4, in the quarterfinals. Another quarterfinalist, Ryan Nolan of Havre de Grace, was turned back by Howard High's No. 4 seed Sam

Booker, 7-5, 6-3.

Bel Air's fourth-seeded Susie Samuel was the lone county girls singles player to reach the quarterfinal round, and she suffered a 6-0, 6-1 setback to third-place finisher Bronwyn Fulton of Severna Park.
