Zoning commission gets new member

Deborah S. Harman is the newest member of the Sykesville Planning and Zoning Commission.

The Oklahoma Road resident, nominated by Mayor Lloyd R. Helt Jr., will fill a long-standing vacancy on the seven-member panel.

"It's dangerous to be the mayor's friend," said Mr. Helt, presiding at his last meeting Monday night.

The Town Council unanimously accepted Ms. Harman's nomination at that meeting.

Ms. Harman, who has lived in Sykesville for about seven years, will step into the Obrecht Road controversy at her first official meeting June 7. The commission will work on revising its recommendation for realigning the heavily traveled road.
