When the Washington Bullets made North Carolina State's Tom Gugliotta their first-round pick, there were boos from fans at the Capital Centre.
"I preferred thinking they were yelling 'Goog,' " said Gugliotta.
Now there is reason to cheer. Gugliotta made the All-Rookie team selected by NBA coaches.
Only Rookie of the Year Shaquille O'Neal of Orlando, center Alonzo Mourning of Charlotte, (both with 26), and Minnesota forward Christian Laettner (22) received more votes than Gugliotta (21). Denver forward LaPhonso Ellis (14) completed the first five.
Former Maryland All-America guard Walt Williams of Sacramento headed the second team. He was joined by Houston forward Robert Horry, Golden State guard Latrell Sprewell, Philadelphia forward Clarence Weatherspoon and Phoenix guard Richard Dumas.
Gugliotta, 6-foot-10 forward, led all rookies in assists (3.8) and steals (1.6), and averaged 14.7 points.
