Sykesville's 9-and-under team banged out 17 hits and routed Winfield, 18-5, Sunday to improve to 5-0 in Central Maryland Travel baseball action.

Sykesville sent 17 batters to the plate and 11 hit safely in a 13-run third inning.

Robbie Ruch and Brian Schmidt each had a two-run double in the big inning.

Dustin Lippert was 3-for-4 with four RBI for Sykesville, and Mickey Sargent, who is batting .700, was 2-for-2 and scored twice.

Last week, Sykesville crushed Finksburg, 28-9, with a 22-hit attack. Sykesville scored eight runs in the first and third innings and nine in the fourth.

Matt McGuire was 3-for-4 for Sykesville, Josh Ahmason was 2-for-3 with three RBI, and Michael Daugherty and Sargent each were 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI.

Under-10 -- Sykesville's 10-and-under team ripped Columbia, tTC 10-2, Sunday. Sykesville scored seven runs in a seven-hit third inning. Chris Gooding's two-run double put Sykesville ahead for good, 3-2.

Sykesville hurlers Jeremiah Poleman, Perry Sartain and Bryan Hamper combined to throw a no-hitter.

Last week, Sykesville edged Reisterstown, 3-2. D. J. Pohlit, who was 2-for-3, scored the winning run after doubling in the sixth inning.

Under-11 -- Sykesville's 11-and-under team held on to edge Manchester, 11-10, last week.

Jonathan Tissue's two-run double was the big hit in a six-run fifth inning that put Sykesville ahead, 11-5.

But Manchester scored five in its last at-bat with Adam Crowl's three-run triple the big blow.

Carl Lowery came in to get the last two outs and save the game for Sykesville.

Freedom Optimist lacrosse

In Circle Lacrosse, Green edged Blue, 2-1, behind goals by Matt Fraser and Leah Onden. Robert Etzler scored Blue's goal on an (( assist from Lyndsay Weiner.

Mike Gooding scored five goals to lead Orange to a 10-0 win over Red. Nick Bear added three goals and Mike Nardella two. Pat Wyatt had two assists and Lauren Blair one.

Boys 12-14 -- Orange took an 8-5 verdict over Blue. Rob Onda paced the winners with five goals and Mickey Benham, David Martin and Travis Spampilato each added one.

Mickey Deal had two goals for Blue and Trey King, Rob Lee, and Jason Brucolo each had one. King and Brent Becker each had an assist for Blue.

Maroon topped Orange, 10-5, behind Nick Tergallina's four goals and two apiece from Steve Restivo and Nick Hoover. Brad Bantel and Nick Waldner each added a goal and an assist and Restivo added two assists.

Onda scored three goals for Orange and Jason Wilder, two.

White rode five goals by Mike Rabinovitz and four from Zack Deitrich to a 10-8 win over Grey.

Ryan Blair had four goals and two assists to lead Gold to an 8-5 win over Blue.

Gunnar Burdt popped in two more for Gold (6-0), and Lee Windsor and Mike Nagle, one apiece. John Lamont added an assist.

Blue got one goal apiece from Rob Hartwell, Mike Deal, Brucolo )) King and Chris Straver.

Heller poured in five goals and added an assist to lead Grey to a 10-6 victory over Maroon.

Jason Weisenborn had two goals and an assist for Grey, K. C. Cartlet added two scores and Andrew Bettis contributed a goal.

Nick Ingallina had three scores for Maroon, Steve Restivo two and Eric Parrish one.

White edged Black, 8-7.

Kevin Roy had three goals for the winners, Mike Rabinovitz added two goals and two assists, and Sean Welch had two goals and one assist.

Zack Deitrich contributed a goal and Tim Chairs an assist.

Charles Gibson had three goals and two assists for Black and Keith Sullivan and Tim Hymiller each had a goal and an assist.

L Mike Pearsall and Ryan Lynch each scored one goal for Black.

Boys 9-11 -- Grey topped Blue, 5-3, behind two goals from Danny Stansbury and Tim Kosyjana.

Luke Beam had the other goal.

Owen Hubbs, Josh Phelps and Jason Veneziani each had a goal for Blue and Evan Cunningham contributed two assists.

Blue goalkeeper Danny Kessler had nine saves.

Pete Schaffer scored five goals and contributed an assist to lead Orange to an 11-3 romp over White.

Chad Parker added two goals and an assist for the winners.

Ben Becker had a goal and an assist and Justin Waagbo, Steve Miller and Kevin Schreiner each had a goal.

Chris Heck scored twice for White and Eric Fisher once.

Green kept its share of first place with Orange by turning back White, 7-2.

Chris Heck and Matt Seivold had White's scores.

Orange stayed abreast of Green in first place by beating Blue, 13-9.

Schaffer popped in six goals for the winners and had two assists.

4 Parker had three goals and an assist for Orange.

Becker had two goals and an assist and Steven Waagbo contributed two goals.

Maryland Youth Lacrosse

Courtney Bierne's goal broke an 8-8 tie and gave Gamber's 13-14 girls' team a hard-fought 9-8 win over St. James Prep on Sunday.

Midfielder Amy Bittinger, who made three key interceptions in the game, set up the winning shot when she picked off a St. James pass and got the ball to Bierne.

Bierne had five goals, Brooke Calderon two and Stacey Ludwig and Rachel Tyree one apiece for Gamber.
