Contributions for Loose being accepted

Contributions in memory of Fred Loose, 70, who died Sunday while playing the piano at the Topside Inn in Galesville, may be made to the National Elks Foundation in care of the Deale Elks Lodge No. 2528, Deale 20751.

Mr. Loose and his widow, Myrtle Loose, had long been active in the organization.

The Reading, Pa., native had claimed the mirrored piano bar at the restaurant overlooking the West River for 19 years and one week.

He is survived by his wife, two daughters by a previous marriage, Janet C. Gillespie of North Carolina and Frederica "Ricke" Morgan of Shady Side; four stepchildren, Alfred Sandy Jones, Billy Jones, Judy Hebert and Carol Rebecca; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a step-grandson, Nick Melice; numerous other step-grandchildren; and great-step-grandchildren.

Services are to be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. James Episcopal Church in Lothian.

Deale man charged in slashing at bar

A 42-year-old Deale man was charged with assault in the knife slashing of another man early Monday during an argument over a woman outside a bar in Deale, county police said yesterday.

The victim, Michael Wayne Jones, 28, of Chesapeake Beach was treated and released from Anne Arundel Medical Center after receiving stitches for a small cut on the right side of his chest, police said.

Police said the fight broke out outside the Happy Harbor Inn on Rockhold Creek about 2 a.m.

Friends took Mr. Jones to a nearby fire station, where an ambulance crew took him to the hospital.

Police charged John Tillison Moreland of the 600 block of Clarke Ave.

New cards sent to Annapolis voters

The Anne Arundel County Board of Supervisors of Elections has mailed new voter notification cards to registered voters in Annapolis reflecting ward changes.

Many cards also list new voting locations. Voters are asked to check the information on the card for errors. Corrections must be made by Aug. 23, the final day to register for the Sept. 21 Annapolis primary election. Mail changes or corrections to the Anne Arundel County Board of Supervisors of Elections, P.O. Box 490, Glen Burnie 21060-0490.
