Actor to portray circuit preacher at special service
Actor Ken Steward will portray Robert Strawbridge, the first American Methodist circuit rider, making a visit to Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, Pleasant Grove and Dover Roads in Boring, as the church celebrates the 125th anniversary of its founding in 1868 at the 11 a.m. worship service Sunday.
Born in Ireland in 1732, Strawbridge immigrated to America, settled on Sam's Creek near New Windsor and began to spread Methodism throughout the area. He died in 1781 and was buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Baltimore.
After the service, a covered-dish luncheon will be served.
