Charges pending in crash involving state police car

Charges are pending against a Westminster youth who was involved in an accident with a state police cruiser Friday, police said.

State police said Dennis Johnson, 16, of Littlestown Pike was driving south on Route 97 at Old Westminster Pike about 11:30 p.m. Friday.

As the Johnson youth made a left turn onto Old Westminster Pike during a green light, his car collided with the northbound cruiser driven by Tfc. Jeffrey Hartzler, police said.

Allison Bradford, a passenger in the Johnson car, and Betty Ford, a communications officer in the cruiser, suffered minor injuries, police said. They were treated at Carroll County General Hospital and released.

Cpl. Kevin Utz investigated the accident.


* Westminster: $180 was taken from the Evans Optical store in the first block of E. Main St. Wednesday, the owner reported to city police.

An intruder stole property valued at $250 from a home on Hersh Avenue on Wednesday, the resident told police.

Someone damaged a concession stand at the Jaycees Softball Field at Johahn and Uniontown Roads on Monday. The estimate of the damage was $100.


* Pleasant Valley: Firefighters from the Pleasant Valley company were called to put out a tree fire on West Deep Run Road at 11:22 a.m. Saturday. They were out for 33 minutes.

Westminster, New Windsor, Pleasant Valley, Hampstead and Manchester firefighters were called out for 35 minutes answering a fire alarm on St. Lukes Circle at 2:42 p.m. Saturday.

The Reese fire company was out for 10 minutes at an auto fire on

Crowl Road at 3:13 p.m. Saturday.

Westminster firefighters were called to extinguish a woods fire off Lucabaugh Mill Road at 5:10 p.m. Friday. They were out for 40 minutes.

The Westminster fire company was called to conduct a 15-minute fire investigation on Charles Street at 9:40 p.m. Friday.

Reese, Westminster and Gamber firefighters fought an early-morning house fire on Sykesville Road (Route 32) for 26 minutes Friday. They were called at 6:47 a.m.
