Desira St. Pierre, 16, of Broadneck.

School: Broadneck Senior H.S.

Achievements,Interests: Desira maintains a 3.5 grade point average and is the junior class secretary.

A member of the Chesapeake Regional Association of Student Councils (C.R.A.S.C.) since her freshman year, she currently is the second vice president of that organization and serves on the Educational Liaison Committee, helping to keep lines of communication open between C.R.A.S.C and the Board of Education.

She has served on numerous committees where students actively participate in curriculum issues such as the Principal's Advisory Committee, the Student Council Executive Committee, and committees dealing with weighted grading, service learning, academic eligibility and multicultural curriculum. Next year she will be the county's student representative on the Board of Education.

For the past four years she has been a Maryland Association of Student Council delegate and was one of three student representatives from the county to the attend the National Association of Student Councils in Colorado last summer.

Outside of school, Desira is a member of St. Andrews By The Bay, where she is active in the youth group. She has done volunteer work for the Salvation Army, participated in holiday sharing programs and activities to assist needy families in the community.

Upon graduating from high school, Desira plans to attend college, pursuing a career in special education and guidance counseling.

Comments: "I want to go into education because I want to make a difference. I have many positive role models growing up, and now I want to serve as a role model."
