Beth Shalom to break ground for new synagogue on June 6

Beth Shalom Conservative Jewish Congregation of Howard County is inviting the community to ground-breaking ceremonies for its new synagogue at 3 p.m. June 6 at Guilford Road, near the corner of Freetown Road.

The building will be the first synagogue to be built in Howard County.

Future WJZ-TV anchor Sally Thorner will be the host of the ceremonies, which will feature a performance by the Columbia Orchestra and Cantor Anita Schubert. U.S. Rep. Benjamin Cardin (D-Md.) and Rabbi Kenneth Cohen will speak.

Broken Land Parkway and Route 32: Someone stole a $300 AM-FM cassette radio from a 1992 Chevrolet Cavalier between 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Broken Land Parkway and Route 32: Someone entered a 1986 Volkswagen Golf between 7:15 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, and stole a $200 AM-FM cassette tape player and a $10 cassette tape.

* Long Reach: 6100 block of Foreland Garth: Someone stole 20 $50 bills from under a dining room chair cushion between 11 a.m. and noon March 20. There was no sign of forced entry. Twelve $100 dollar bills and $1,200 in traveler's checks were left behind.

5700 block Flag Flower Place: Someone stole a $200 Black and Decker lawn mower from a back yard between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Thursday.

5600 block of Lightspun Lane: Someone stole a $320 cassette radio from a 1991 Jeep Wrangler about 5:50 p.m. Sunday.

* Dorsey's Search: 5600 block of Columbia Road: Someone shattered a door window on a 1990 Chevrolet Cavalier between 7:30 a.m. and 11 p.m. Wednesday, and stole $480 worth of cassette tapes and an $8 carrying case.
