None injured by gunshot CENTRAL -- Union Mills * Westminster * Sandymount

A Westminster family of five, including three small children, escaped possible injury Mother's Day when they were not home when a bullet from a high-powered rifle came through the front of their house, struck a wall and dropped on the living room sofa.

The resident, who asked not to be identified, lives on Old Baltimore Road near Route 97. She said neighbors told her they had heard gunshots coming from a nearby farm.

State police who were called to investigate the woman's complaint found evidence someone had been shooting in a pasture, apparently pointing a weapon toward the woman's house.

The bullet was recovered inside the woman's house and given to Trooper Jeffrey Hartzler.

Trooper Hartzler reported that occupants of the farm said they heard shooting in the field Sunday but did not investigate.

The woman said the bullet came through the front wall near the front door about four feet above the floor. It crossed the living room and splattered against the rear wall, causing a large indentation in the wall and spraying the living room and dining room with dust.

The incident was discovered when the residents returned home about 3 p.m.
