County accepts bids for roof and CCC parking lot projects


Carroll County received bids yesterday to build a new parking lot at Carroll Community College and to reroof the Winchester Building, which houses county offices at 125 N. Court St., Westminster

Thirteen companies submitted bids for the 524-space parking lot on the south side of the college. County engineers estimated the project would cost $350,000.

The low bid was $337,376 from Conewago Contractors of Hanover, Pa. The next lowest was $337,900 from McAlister-Schwartz Co. of Rockville. The third was $345,180 from Kinsley Construction of York, Pa. The fourth was $346,800 from C. J. Miller of Hampstead.

Construction on the parking lot should begin within the next month, said Thomas F. Crum, chief of the Bureau of Purchasing.

Five companies submitted bids to build a membrane roof with flashing to keep water out at the Winchester Building. County engineers estimated the cost at $30,000 to $35,000.

The low bid, of $29,500, was submitted by Raymar Roofing Co. of New Oxford, Pa.

The other bids were $31,740 from Donald B. Smith of Hanover, Pa.; $33,354 from Heidler Roofing Services of York, Pa.; $38,302 from John E. Zentz and Sons of Finksburg; and $47,876 from Better Buildings of Baltimore.

Work on the roof should begin within a month, Mr. Crum said.
