Rochester Red Wings outfielder Jeffrey Hammonds was not in the lineup last night against the Norfolk Tides because of muscle spasms in his right shoulder. It was the second straight game he had missed.
Hammonds has not played for Triple-A Rochester since Saturday, when he served as designated hitter and hit a three-run homer to break an 8-8 tie against the Pawtucket Red Sox.
"If it goes seven to 10 days or two weeks, I feel maybe there will be pressure to get something done," said Hammonds, who suffered the injury before Friday night's game. "In this situation, where injuries are part of the game, I have yet to hear anyone try to push me out when I'm not ready to go."
With the Red Wings back to a full 23-man roster, there is no need to rush Hammonds.
"The next day I go out and play I want to be in center field, where I can throw and dive for a ball if I have to."
