Phillies defeat Baysox, 5-4

READING, Pa. -- A bases-loaded double by Gene Schall and an RBI single by Ron Lockett sparked a four-run fourth inning, and the Reading Phillies went on to defeat the Bowie Baysox, 5-4, last night in a Double-A Eastern League game.

Schall's double past the third-base bag tied it 4-4, and Lockett bounced a hit up the middle for Reading's third straight win.

The Baysox (17-11) scored four runs off starter Craig Holman (1-1) in the second inning, but the right-hander survived the big inning and gave up just one hit the rest of the

way, leaving after seven.

Toby Borland struck out the side in the ninth inning for his third save.

Reading (13-14) had scored a run in the first on a bases-loaded wild pitch from starter Kevin Ryan (1-3).

Bowie scored its runs on an RBI double by Brent Miller and RBI singles by Gregg Zaun, Tim Holland and Jim Wawruck.
