Man steals car after stolen car hearing, police say

THE BALTIMORE SUN

PHILADELPHIA -- David Johnson went to court charged with stealing a 1989 Cutlass Ciera. He left driving a 1986 Buick Regal.

The problem, police say, was that the Buick didn't belong to him either.

And after leaving the courtroom yesterday, the same two officers who had arrested Mr. Johnson last month -- and who had testified against him 10 minutes earlier -- arrested him again.

Mr. Johnson, 29, reported for a hearing yesterday at the building that houses both Municipal Court and the East Detective Division. Officers Christopher Foley and John Wolk were there, too. Everyone walked out about 9:30.

Ten minutes later, the officers noticed a Buick make a U-turn, and pulled up beside the car.

It was Mr. Johnson.
