Plan for artificial reef to be outlined

A state official will explain a plan to build an artificial reef north of Bodkin Point at 7 p.m. May 24 at Fort Smallwood Elementary School.

John Foster of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources will answer questions about the reef, which would be constructed from discarded tires and concrete. The reef would provide homes for oysters, mussels, barnacles and tiny crustaceans that normally populate hard surfaces on the bay bottom.

The public will have an opportunity to comment on the reef project. For more information about the meeting, call 841-3217 on a Tuesday or Thursday.
