The Bamboo House Mandarin Restaurant has been in this location for 19 years. During that time, the owners have opened restaurants at Harborplace and in the old Greenspring Inn.
Lunch and dinner carryouts account for about a third of their business at this location.
My order was from the dinner menu, which is more extensive and expensive than lunch, but the portions are much larger. We started with egg rolls, two for $3.95, which are delicious and filled with nice munchy vegetables, followed by a large container of hot and sour soup, $2.50, which my husband says is the best he's tasted.
The shredded chicken sauteed with fresh ginger and string beans, $9.50, is spicy, but not too hot. The sauteed tender scallops, $11.95, were plentiful and tender, but I found the dish a little bland. Rice, noodles and sauces came with the meal, but no fortune cookies or napkins.
My biggest problem with Chinese food is that I don't know what's in most of the dishes. I might love Kong Pao shrimp, if I only knew what it was! Why can't someone make up a menu dictionary and have one at each table and at the carryout counter?
