Baysox, Binghamton rained out June doubleheader set as makeup

After a delay of less than an hour, the Bowie Baysox postponed last night's scheduled Eastern League game against the Binghamton Mets at Memorial Stadium.

It was rescheduled as part of a twi-night doubleheader June 7.

The rainout is expected to give Fernando Valenzuela a chance to start tonight's series finale. Yesterday's expected starter, Jose Mercedes (0-1), would be available in relief.

Rick Krivda, Kevin Ryan and Jason Satre are likely to pitch for Bowie in this weekend's series in Harrisburg, Pa.

Only a few scattered seats were occupied at the stadium for the Double-A team, which has won four straight and was in a virtual tie for second place in the league with Harrisburg.

Buford said the lean crowds since Opening Day have "not been a disappointment, but I really thought we'd have more here Monday when the Orioles were off just to see what the Baysox were about."

That game drew 1,277, despite good weather.

Box-seat holders from last night can use their rain checks for a future game, and those with general admission tickets can turn in their stubs at Gate W2 for another game.
