Daniel J. Scott elected builder's vice president
Daniel J. Scott, president of Gerald G. Scott and Sons Inc. general contractors, has been elected vice president of the Baltimore Metro Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors for 1993.
1% Mr. Scott lives in Jarrettsville.
Van Deusen named to remodelers' board
Jay S. Van Deusen, owner of Van Deusen Construction Inc. has been appointed to the board of directors of the Remodelers' Council for the State of Maryland. Mr. Van Deusen's firm, a full-service remodeling company in Darlington, specializes in renovation and restoration of buildings and structures in Harford and Baltimore Counties.
He joins 15 of his colleagues in the remodeling industry as a member of the board, and as a member of the Council's Award of Excellence Committee.
HCC staffers' article published
Three Harford Community College faculty members, Richard V. Miller, Barbara J. Mull, and Anita Ellzey, recently had their article, "Faculty Development, Renewal and Recognition: The NISOD Model," published in Innovative Abstracts, a publication of the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD), Department of Educational Administration, the University of Texas at Austin.
Mr. Miller, a professor of business administration; Ms. Mull, a professor and Ms. Ellzey, an associate professor of accounting, wrote an article describing the College's commitment to NISOD's annual International Conference on Teaching Excellence.
Although HCC personnel were unable to attend due to budget restraints, the faculty put together a local version of the conference. Topics included cooperative learning strategies, CD-ROM search strategies for faculty and students, and custom publishing.
Innovative Abstracts is published weekly during the academic year, and is circulated to over 1,000 community colleges in the nation.
HCC staff advises group on secretary test
Mary Valenti, associate professor and chairwoman of computer and office technology at Harford Community College, and Marlene Lieb, director of conferences and professional development at HCC, made a presentation at a recent session of the Federal Women's Program about how to prepare for the Certified Professional Secretaries examination.
Ms. Valenti and Ms. Lieb discussed the credit and noncredit courses available through the College that are specifically designed to cover CPS exam topics, as well as other avenues of test preparation.
