Manchester accepts $1,500 bid for the town's old police 0) cruiser

The Manchester Town Council voted Wednesday to accept a bid of $1,500 for the town's old police cruiser.

Four bids were received. The winning offer came from David Shreve, of 3037 Westminster St. The lowest offer was $711.99.

"I didn't think I would get it," Mr. Shreve said. "But you never know with these kind of things."

He said he picked up the light blue 1987 Chevrolet Caprice yesterday morning. The car is in good condition, he said.

"I lucked out," he said. "I can't really see why they got rid of it."

Mr. Shreve said he will use the car to commute to work, and for his volunteer work with Carroll County REACT, a group that monitors CB radio channel 9 and provides communications for events such as the Crop Walk.
