Man robbed at knifepoint in home

A 23-year-old man was robbed at knifepoint Wednesday morning by a man who broke into his basement apartment and threatened to kill him if he told anyone about the crime, police reported.

According to police, the burglar forced his way into the apartment in the 7800 block of Mayford Avenue about 10 a.m. and woke the resident, who walked into the kitchen and found the burglar with a knife.

The burglar told the man to sit down and asked if he had any money. When the resident said "no," the burglar asked about the upstairs apartment.

The man led the burglar upstairs where the burglar kicked the glass out of the sliding-glass door and ransacked the apartment.

As the burglar left with an undetermined amount of money, he told the man to tell the police that a black man had robbed him and threatened to return if he was arrested.

The victim called police from a friend's house because the telephone lines in his apartment had been cut.

The burglar was described as a white man, 160 pounds and in his late 20s.

He was wearing blue jeans, a gray sweat shirt and black leather gloves.
