A 34-year-old former county school teacher pleaded guilty to assault yesterday for accosting and making sexual advances toward a student at a Severn technical school last fall.
Frederick Kaiss Jr., formerly of Centennial Circle in Ferndale, pleaded guilty to assault and battery in connection with an incident involving a 16-year-old girl at the Center for Applied Technology North on Sept. 10, 1992.
Assistant State's Attorney Kathleen Rogers said the girl had been required to stay after school to take a makeup test. While taking the test, she left Kaiss' classroom to go to the bathroom.
He followed her into the bath room, tried to kiss her, fondled her and offered to give her money and an "A" if she would have sex with him, according to a statement read into the court record.
Ms. Rogers said the girl, who was taking a plumbing course from Kaiss, fled.
Kaiss has been on paid leave and living in Louisiana since the incident, but told prosecutors he would resign effective yesterday, Ms. Rogers said.
She said that Kaiss had no criminal record and that she would recommend that he not be incarcerated when sentenced.
Circuit Judge Raymond G. Thieme Jr. set sentencing for May 10.
