Retired federal employees group gives awards

Glen Burnie Chapter No. 1519 of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) recently presented award certificates to 28 members for their volunteer work in the past year.

Volunteers spent time working in NARFE service centers, area hospitals, Meals on Wheels, senior centers and other community organizations, chapter President Ed Thomas said.

The volunteers and the hours they served are: Mary Wood, 992; Marie Beatty, 843; Lucille Killian, 740; Caroline Herbut, 668; Margaret D'Anna, 600; Louis Calka, 504; David Burke, 500; Mickey Schneider, 470; Dorothy O'Neal, 448; Harriet Reinholdson, 312; Virginia Kemp, 274; Audrey Stallings, 266; Rosalie Nickelson, 252; Grace Evans, 230; Jan Strickler, 225; Beryl Burke, 200.

Also: Helen Fowler, 200; Albert Fowler, 200; William Strickler, 185; George Burkhardt, 152; Charlie Cannon, 122; Dorothy Stewart, 100; Suzanne Hackman, 90; Betty Cannon, 60; Joe Koester, 40; Neva Koester, 40; Frances Smith, 36; Ray Welch, 33.

Ms. Wood received the chapter's volunteer trophy for the most hours reported.


* Greentree: Stereo equipment valued at $600 was taken from a 1989 Chevrolet parked in the 8000 block of Crainmont Drive Sunday.

* Hidden Woods: Burglars broke into an apartment in the 400 block of Hideaway Loop Saturday and took $100 from a purse lying on the dining room table.

* Silver Sands: Power tools were stolen from a tool box on the back porch of a home in the 800 block of North Shore Drive between March 15 and Monday. The value of the property was not known.
