Events canceled by 'Blizzard of 1993' are rescheduled

Most of the activities postponed last weekend because of the blizzard that paralyzed the county for several days have been rescheduled in the next two weeks.

* The Fort Meade Area School Committee, which was to meet last Saturday, will meet March 27 at 10 a.m. The group, made up of parents who have children in the Meade feeder system, plans to elect officers and decide what topics to focus on this year.

The meeting will be held in the band room of MacArthur Middle School at Fort Meade. For more information, call Cyrus Stroman at 551-7975.

* Also rescheduled for March 27 is the Archbishop Spalding High School Sports Boosters, which plans to sponsor a St. Patrick's Day Bull and Oyster Roast from 7 p.m. to midnight.

Admission is $21. The event will be held in the high school cafeteria. For more information, call 544-1726. Proceeds will go toward building a multi-sports stadium.

* A "Golden Bingo" tournament, scheduled for last Sunday, will be played on March 28. It is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary and will start at 12:30 p.m. at the auxiliary, 8068 Quarterfield Road, in Severn. Admission is $20. For more information, call 768-3791, 551-6568 or 768-4654.

2 men sought in robbery of bartender

County police were still looking yesterday for the men who robbed a 32-year-old bartender at the Starting Gate Lounge in Laurel Monday.

According to investigators, the bartender was getting out of her car in the parking lot of the tavern on Route 198 at 1 a.m. when two men in their late teens or early 20s demanded her jewelry and money. One of the robbers had a knife.

After she turned over her belongings, the pair ran toward Whiskey Bottom Road.

4 charged after drug raid

County police charged four people with possession of marijuana after a raid on an apartment on Telegraph Road Tuesday night.

Investigators said they received complaints from residents in the area about drug trafficking at the apartment in the 7500 block of E. Old Telegraph Road. They searched the home at 9 p.m. and found a small amount of marijuana and paraphernalia.

John Wayne Purdham, 30, and Karen Hope, 28, who live in that apartment, Shawn Lamont Greenway, 19, of the 7800 block of Telegraph Road; Eric James Frank, 20, of the 2700 block of Norfen Road in Severn, and Robert Ralph Russell, 20, of the 4400 block Fenor Road in Baltimore, were taken to Western District to be charged.

2 teens charged in bowling alley theft

Two masked teen-agers were charged with robbing an Odenton bowling alley late Tuesday, county police reported.

Police said the teens walked into the Greenway Bowling Alley in the 8200 block of Telegraph Road at 11:15 p.m. They ordered all the employees to lie on the floor while one of the robbers took apart the phone and the other took the money from the safe.

Police arrested Bradley M. Dunker, 18, of the 8200 block of Bernard Drive in Millersville, and Jimmi Al-Manqouri, 17, of the 700 block of North Crain in Glen Burnie, shortly after they left the bowling alley.

Mr. Al-Manqouri, was charged as an adult with armed robbery. Mr. Dunker was also charged with armed robbery.
