Deaths of physician and wife ruled suicides by asphyxia

The state medical examiner's office has ruled suicide by asphyxia caused the deaths of an elderly couple in their Sykesville home.

The bodies of Dr. William J. Bryson and his wife, Charlotte, both 75, were found about noon Tuesday in the master bedroom at their home in the 600 block of Sideling Court, police said. A family friend found them. There were no signs of foul play when police arrived at the house. Suicide notes were found.

Dr. Bryson, who was terminally ill, retired from a private practice in Catonsville several years ago, said a spokesman for St. Agnes Hospital, where the doctor once worked as an internist and pulmonary medicine specialist.

Funeral arrangements were not immediately available.
