Linthicum construction to improve water service

The Anne Arundel County Department of Utilities will begin this month installing lines to connect water mains to water meters in Linthicum.

Work is to be done between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. in the communities of Michaelton Manor and Twin Oaks.

Residents will see excavating, pipe laying, installation, backfilling, paving and seeding. Utilities officials urge drivers to use caution near construction sites, because traffic patterns might change.

The work will mean area homes will have additional water pressure and better water quality.

Man skips drug trial, is arrested on new charge

A 32-year-old Brooklyn Park man was arrested yesterday in the Anne Arundel County Circuit Courthouse for failing to appear in court when required, the Sheriff's Office said.

Carl Knapp, of the 6000 block of Belle Grove Road, was taken to the sheriff's lockup, where a bag of marijuana and cigarette paper were found on him, officials said.

Sheriff Robert Pepersack said Knapp was scheduled to stand trial at 9 a.m. for drug possession and distribution charges. When Knapp failed to appear, the judge ordered his arrest. When he entered the courthouse at 11 a.m., he was recognized by a deputy sheriff and taken into custody.
