25 Years Ago (week of Feb. 25-March 2, 1968):

* Construction began this week on an Olympic-sized swimming pool for the Watermont Swim Club, located adjacent to Marshalee Estates off Montgomery Road in the Ellicott City area. The swim club was expected to open during the summer of 1968.

50 Years Ago (week of Feb. 28-March 6, 1943):

* Four boys arrested near Marriottsville for the alleged theft of canned goods and a radio appeared before Magistrate L. M. Leimbach this week. Each was sentenced to a one-year term in the Maryland House of Corrections, and two of the boys received an additional 30-day term in the Howard County Jail for the radio theft. All sentences were immediately suspended, and the youths were placed on parole.

Information for this column was compiled by Diane Mullaly from the files of the Howard County Historical Society's library.
