Candy Credito scored 12 points and Cindy Jenkins added 10 as Fallston rolled past Bohemia Manor, 47-17, in a Class 1A, Region III semifinal last night at Fallston.
The Cougars (17-4), state finalists last year, will host the winner of yesterday's Joppatowne-Kent game for the regional championship tomorrow at 1 p.m.
Last night, sixth-seeded Bohemia Manor, which had upset fifth-seeded Perryville in the first round, led only once, 2-0.
The top-seeded Cougars then ran up a 10-2 lead as Credito scored the team's first eight points and Jenkins added a layup.
Despite the early lead, however, the Cougars never really had the game in hand until the third quarter. After seven days off, the Harford County champions looked rusty.
"I'd rather be in there playing than sitting around waiting," said Fallston coach Nancy Ferguson. "And some of it was nerves, which is good. You want them to respect anyone you play. You don't want them to take it lightly."
After the Eagles (7-14) cut the Cougars' lead to 12-10, Fallston went on a 13-2 run that ended at halftime. Lori Heffley scored five and Jenkins added four in the run.
The Eagles simply couldn't handle the Cougars' quick zone defenses. They turned the ball over 38 times and hit just six of 45 shots. Although they scored eight in the first quarter, the Cecil County team could manage no more than four points in each of the final three quarters.
The Cougars held Bohemia Manor's best shooter, Lisa Hutton, to 12 points, including a pair of three-pointers, but no one else could pick up the slack.
Ferguson went to her bench early and finished out the final four minutes of the game without one starter on the court.
Starters Heffley (seven points) and Suzy Harrison added 13 points. Reserves Jenny Weber, Lisa Taylor, Daina Burton, Suzanne Kontrabecki and Beth Rappold combined for 10.
