Programs will mark Archaeology Week

The Upper Patuxent Archaeology Group, the Friends of the Patapsco Female Institute, the Howard County Historical Society and the Department of Recreation and Parks are offering two programs about the institute that will take place during Maryland Archaeology Week, March 21-27.

A focus on the history of the Patapsco Female Institute will take place at the ruins from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. March 22 with a display of artifacts, preservation plans and music by students in period costumes. The event is free.

On March 27, two sessions, morning and afternoon, will have a variety of hands-on workshops, tours and a close-up view of artifacts and documents from the 1800s. Cost is $5 per session, families $12; $8 and $15 respectively for out-of-county residents.

Adults must accompany children under 16 years.

* Ellicott City: 4200 block of Club Court: Someone kicked in a door to a home after 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Nothing was taken.

9100 block of Northfield Road: An undisclosed amount of cash was stolen from an office at Northfield Elementary School between 9 p.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. Monday.

3500 block of Court House Drive: A 1990 Hyundai Sonata was stolen between 5 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30 a.m. Wednesday. The Maryland license plates are XYZ-285.

3100 block of W. Springs Drive: Someone tried to steal a vehicle between Sunday and 7:30 a.m. Tuesday. A vehicle description wasn't given.

Park Drive at Church Road: A maroon 1989 Chevrolet Beretta was recovered Saturday. The car was reported stolen in Baltimore County.

* Elkridge: 7600 block of Old Rock Bridge Drive: A rear basement window was forced open between 6:30 p.m. and 9:50 p.m. Thursday, and the place was ransacked.

7500 block of Route 1: A lock was twisted on a door at the Bedroom Outlet about 2:30 a.m. yesterday.

6500 block of Route 1: Hasps on two construction trailers were cut at Lozito Contracting on Thursday or Friday. Unknown property was stolen.
