Hammond senior is semifinalist for scholarship
Robert D. Greiner, a senior at Hammond High School, has been named one of 160 semifinalists in North Carolina State University's merit scholarship competition.
The son of Margie and Robert C. Greiner of Laurel, Robert will compete for amounts ranging from a one-time $1,500 grant to a scholarship worth $7,500 a year.
Vice president of the senior class, Robert plans to major in engineering at North Carolina State, Virginia Tech or Carnegie Mellon University.
At Hammond, Robert is a member of the choir, the madrigals, the theater group, the cross country team and the outdoor track squad.
Legion post offers two scholarships
American Legion Post 60 in Laurel is offering two $1,250 Anthony Payton Memorial Scholarships to local students.
Laurel residents attending Atholton, Eleanor Roosevelt, Hammond, Meade, Vincent Pallotti or other local high schools may submit applications to the scholarship committee.
Applications are available from guidance offices. Students also may write to American Legion, Laurel Maryland Post 60, Scholarship Committee, 2 Main St., Laurel 20707. Application deadline is April 15.
* North Laurel: Pinenut Court and Redbridge Court: A brown trailer and a 1979 16-foot Crestliner boat were stolen between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Feb. 23.
9100 block of All Saints Road: Several juveniles entered Paradise Tanning Salon at about 3:15 p.m. Friday and pushed over plants in the lobby.
* Jessup: 8200 block of Patuxent Range Road: Someone forced open a 1983 Ford van between 6 p.m. Thursday and 6 a.m. Friday, and stole a $165 saw and a $216 drill hammer.
